A call for proposals for the annual conference to be held this fall in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 1-4.
The Rural, Agricultural and Environmental (RAE) Network of the Social Science History Association welcomes session and paper proposals for its annual conference to be held this fall in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 1-4.
The conference theme is “Histories of Capitalism.” Sessions related to the theme are especially welcomed by the program committee. Initial submissions are organized by the network co-chairs through an online submission system.
At the RAE network meeting, in November of 2011 in Boston, many ideas for panels were discussed. Vancouver was Green Peace’s first home, and accordingly, we welcome any session ideas related to environmentalism and the environmental movement.
Network members also suggested sessions related to, but certainly not limited to:
• trans-Pacific environments
• marine or river ecology
• forestry in the Pacific Northwest
• race and environment
• inequality and the environment
• enclave economies
• landscape change
One of many traditional features of the meeting are book sessions where panelists are invited to comment on important and recently published monographs. Brett Walker has agreed to have his work, Toxic Archipelago: A History of Industrial Disease in Japan, face the usually lively commentary.
