The Department of History and Classics at the University of Alberta is organizing a field trip to Banff National Park on October 29 – November 1, 2009. This field trip is intended primarily for graduate students and will be an opportunity for those studying Banff, the Rocky Mountains, or mountains or parks in general to visit and learn more about local and regional environmental history.
To help support the research and networking of emerging scholars, the Network in Canadian History and Environment/ Nouvelle initiative canadienne en histoire de l'environnement (NiCHE) will sponsor two or three one-time travel awards to allow graduate students who currently reside and study beyond the Edmonton region to participate. Graduate students from across Canada are invited to apply. During your stay in Edmonton, we will arrange for home stays to reduce costs.
The application should consist of:
1. a short statement outlining how the field trip might contribute to research-in-progress, or prove helpful in your education as an environmental historian, and
2. a curriculum vitae.
Applications should be sent by email to Liza Piper, Department of History & Classics, University of Alberta (epiper@ualberta.ca) by September 30, 2009. After the completion of the fieldtrip, award recipients will be asked to post short reports to the NiCHE site. Only applications received on time can be considered.
