On 12 November, 10:00 am, at the University of Alberta, Bill Waiser, George Colpitts and Shannon Bower will be hosting an informal discussion about their work to date on an undergraduate reader dealing with environmental change on the Canadian Prairies, with special attention to the issue of climate change. The editors hope to receive suggestions and advice from interested colleagues. NiCHE will be providing refreshments. Please feel free to share this invitation with other interested faculty, postdoctoral fellows and sessional lecturers, or senior graduate students. The location for this event at the UofA will be released in a few weeks. Feel free to contact Shannon Bower with any questions: stundenb@ualberta.ca

Goals / Objectifs

Despite the often flat and static view of the Prairies in the public gaze and aside from the Prairies providing endless jokes revolving around sight, distance, elevation, and run-away dogs, Prairie region landscapes are actually quite diverse, as are their histories.

The Prairie Environmental Network seeks to create synergies between scholars researching Great Plains and other provincial prairie landscapes. Our aim is to use these interdisciplinary connections to gain a deeper understanding of the common and contested linkages between ecological, social and cultural histories of the Prairie region.
